Good news! We’re in Thunderbolt (near Savannah) and our insurance policy has changed to allow us to go south of here after Nov 1st! We still decided to stay here a few days as some chilly, unsettled weather moves through.
We spent Sunday night anchored in Bull Creek which is below Hilton Head and across from Dafuskie Island. We went around the first bend and found a nice wide spot with good depths for anchoring. Again, we were the only boat in the anchorage. After dinner on deck we moved below and the no-see-ums were ferocious!
Sunrise in Bull Creek
It was a short trip across the Savannah river and into Thunderbolt marina. We’ve never stayed here but heard good things–especially about the fresh Krispy Kreme doughnuts delivered to your boat for breakfast! Wandering down the street we found a good ship’s chandlery and a restaurant highly recommended by the marina staff. Dinner at Tubby’s Tank House was outstanding. The tuna in the sashimi appetizer was freshly caught as were the shrimp in our fried shrimp dinners. The praline cheesecake was to die for! We met some cruisers who say they stop here every year just to eat at Tubby’s. I can see why!
Today is gloomy, windy and chilly. I’m doing laundry (my favorite pastime) and we’ll probably just hang around here for the day. Our trip through the rest of Georgia has some shallow spots to deal with so Skip is making a plan. It’s hard to believe that we could be in Florida by next weekend!
