Getting towed into Solomon's Island
Getting towed into Solomon's Island

After traveling all the way to the Bahamas and back, our engine dies just off of Solomon’s Island — only about 40 miles from home!  We were motor-sailing along in following seas that were rolling us pretty good.  The engine choked a bit and then just died.  We sailed for a little while and tried to start it again but no luck.  So we called TowboatUS and Captain Mike and crew came right out and towed us to Zanhiser’s marina.  Skip had a hunch that the secondary fuel filter was the problem and, sure enough, it was clogged.  He knows that  it’ something that should be on the regular maintenance list so don’t remind him (as I will now add it to my list of  ‘have you checked the ____ lately?)

After fixing the engine problem, we celebrated by having crabcakes at Stoney’s restaurant.  It’s so great to be back in Maryland where crabs are prepared the right way!

Tomorrow, we’ll sail back to Annapolis and meet up with friends Elliott and Ina from New Bern.  They’re cruising the Bay for several weeks before heading back home.  On Wednesday morning, we’ll tie up at our new slip in Jabin’s marina.

Now we need to figure out how to get a ride home…
