We got an early start today (10/31) leaving Swansboro and heading towards Wrightsville Beach.  Not too much excitement…just waiting almost 1 1/2 hours for a bridge to open and going aground while dodging a huge tug/barge!  We did get loose once the barge bounced us while going by only a few feet away!  Here’s something you don’t expect to see along the waterway–a giraffe!

This trip included 3 bridge openings.  One is not very well timed for sailboats.  We had to drift slowly after the Figure 8 bridge to make the Wrightsville Beach bridge which only opens on the hour.   It’s all part of the cruising experience!

When we finally made it through the bridge, we turned off into the Motts channel towards the anchorage.  Many boats were already here but there’s always room for one more!  We anchored close to the bridge and dinghy dock (always a consideration for taking Bailey to shore.)  Bailey was very anxious to take care of business.  I tried to get him to use the potty mat but he just sniffed it and walked away.

We quickly launched the dinghy and went ashore to find that we are only 1 block from the Atlantic Ocean!  Bailey enjoyed his first romp on the beach as we watched a rosy sunset.  Back on the boat, we grilled hamburgers and had a great meal watching the moon rise.  Can’t wait to spend tomorrow on the beach!!
